FAQS

Here are some answers to the questions we get asked the most. If you can’t find what you’re looking for below, don’t worry just contact hello@haxbypilates.com or use the form provided on our 'Contact Us' page and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
  • I HAVE NEVER DONE PILATES AND/OR REFORMER PILATES BEFORE. WHAT STARTER SESSIONS DO YOU DO?
For anyone new to the Reformer we would first tee up an intro session which takes an hour. New users can contact us at hello@haxbypilates.com to do this or the form on the ‘Contact us’ page, letting us know what day(s) and time of day work best and we shall provide some options. Barre Pilates is mixed ability and does not require an introductory session. You can just book straight into a class. Pilates Enhanced Props with Arc (Spine corrector) does require prior Pilates experience as some moves can be at an intermediate level. 1:1 sessions can also be arranged contacting the above ‘hello’ email.
  • AFTER MY REFORMER INTRO SESSION WHAT LEVEL CLASS SHOULD I BOOK?
Following your intro session there are different options and we shall advise you on the best route. It may be to join a Beginners class where we focus on essentials at a slightly easier learning pace, or the Gentle class which is also slightly less intense. Or people may hop straight into the Level 1 classes. We want you to progress as quickly as possible but to feel safe and comfortable.
  • DO YOU OFFER PRE-NATAL REFORMER CLASSES?
We do not offer pre-natal classes but we do provide 1:1 sessions. Pilates is highly recommended during pregnancy for many reasons, to strengthen and prepare bodies for labour and post-natal recovery, but we have to take care and modify exercises during this time. We also have to take into account any specific risk factors to ensure safety throughout. Prior to the 1:1 session we do an initial evaluation using a pre-natal health questionnaire and we shall then tailor the sessions to the individual. If you are interested in this option, contact us at hello@haxbypilates.com or submit the form on the ‘Contact us’ page.
  • DO YOU OFFER POST-NATAL PILATES CLASSES AND WHEN CAN I START EXERCISING AGAIN POST-PARTUM?
We do not offer specific post-natal classes but again Pilates can greatly help with recovery and strengthening. You are safe to take part in Pilates only after you have been signed off at your postnatal checkup. Depending on the type of delivery you have the timeframe to return to exercise can vary. Contact us just to confirm your situation in relation to postnatal checkup and we can advise.
  • I CAN'T MAKE MY CLASS. CAN I TRANSFER TO ANOTHER TIME?
As long as it is not within 24 hours of the booking. We have a strict 24-hour policy on cancellations and transfers. All classes can be managed within our booking app.
  • I HAVE DONE A LOT OF MAT PILATES. DO I NEED TO DO AN INTRODUCTORY SESSION BEFORE BOOKING A REFORMER CLASS?
Anyone who hasn’t used a Reformer before should attend an introductory session to get used to the machine.
  • WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO A PILATES/REFORMER PILATES SESSION?
Loose fitting exercise clothing such as T-shirt, shorts (or long leg bottoms) and socks. Pilates grip socks not essential, but are helpful, you may want to bring a water bottle but not essential.
